25 Jun 2016

Investcorp, a global provider and manager of alternative investment products, today announces the launch of its Student Innovation Prize (“the Prize”), an Investcorp-sponsored competition that aims to stimulate innovative thinking amongst students across Bahrain, to participate in the development of creative solutions for some of the critical challenges facing businesses today.

Students from all Bahrain universities, who are currently enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate programmes, are invited to take part in the Prize. Registration is only open for teams of up to five students. The winning team will receive a cash prize of $25,000.

Mohammed Al Ardhi, Executive Chairman of Investcorp, said: “Innovation sits at the core of what we do at Investcorp. As a committed Bahraini firm who believes in the power of youth today, we wanted to encourage university students from across the Kingdom to take part in the development of innovative business solutions. This initiative will help us continue our efforts to support education and professional development amongst the youth, and prepare them to become the future leaders they want to be. We wish everyone the best of luck in their applications, and we look forward to seeing their great ideas.”

The Prize covers the sectors of finance, industrial, information technology, environment, retail, media, and hospitality, among other business areas. The judging panel will comprise a group of business leaders, both from Investcorp and external firms, who will be responsible for judging the submissions of the teams. Only five teams will be shortlisted to attend the official ceremony, where they will have the chance to present their business ideas. A mentor from Investcorp will be assigned to each of the five teams to provide feedback and guidance before the official presentation day.

The winning team will be announced during an official ceremony that will be held at the University of Bahrain in February 2017.
